Andropause, or male menopause, is a result of a gradual drop in a man’s testosterone level. In a young man the normal level of testosterone is between 750-1200 pg/ml. This gives a young man his sense of self-confidence, libido, mental acumen, energy, and muscle mass. As a man ages, his testosterone falls naturally. Consequently, me loose the vitality they had when they were younger.
Men find that the frequency of awakening with an early morning erection decreases. The strength of their erection decreases, as does the ability to achieve and sustain an erection. Men begin to loose their sex drive, their self-confidence, gain weight and loose muscle mass. They may also suffer from depression, foggy thinking, and withdraw from social activities.
The treatment for men is very simple. At Nouveau, we analyze patient’s baseline testosterone and prostatic specific antigen (PSA). Based upon the patients test results, medical history and physical exam, we prescribe testosterone transdermal creams and DHEA to reestablish their sex hormones to a healthy psychological level. We monitor the metabolites of testosterone (2, 4, and 16 oh Estone) and the patients PSA and complete blood count to maintain optimal health.
Once brought to a physiological and healthy level, men can expect to have an increase in vitality, mental clarity, energy, and sexual function along with a greater lean body mass.
